Town of Washington Island
910 Main Road - PO Box 220
Washington Island, WI 54246
The parks on Washington Island are supported by the Town of Washington Island. The Island is not a State park and the parks are not supported by the State of Wisconsin. The Town of Washington Island has a year round population of approximately 720 residents; with seasonal residents the population increases to approximately 1600. Although tourism is the largest industry on Washington Island and supports the Island businesses, the town does not profit from tourism. In the peak of tourist season, the Island and the parks see thousands of visitors a day. The upkeep, care, preservation and maintenance of the parks rests on the shoulders of the small town tax base.
Because resources are limited, the parks rely on financial support. Every gift matters, regardless of size! Monetary gifts help support basic upkeep such as keeping the beaches clean, providing garbage receptacles and trash removal, restrooms, park benches and tables, groomed paths, parking and signage. Increased philanthropic support will allow the town to enhance the visitor experience by updating aging facilities, signage and amenities. We want every park visit to be the best it can be, for years to come!
